Pubpeer Comment: Concern about Figure 5D: Blue boxes: In the Hippocampus row, two panels representing different treatments unexpectedly overlap This paper was found as part of a Science investigation published by Charles Piller today: Picture Imperfect: Scores of papers by Eliezer Masliah, prominent neuroscientist and top NIH official, fall under suspicion. "After Science brought initial concerns about Masliah’s work to their attention, a neuroscientist and forensic analysts specializing in scientific work who had previously worked with Science produced a 300-page dossier revealing a steady stream of suspect images between 1997 and 2023 in 132 of his published research papers." The illustrations shown here are the result of a collaborative effort of Drs. Matthew Schrag, Mu Yang, Elisabeth Bik, and Mr. Kevin Patrick and reflect our collective opinions. Several figures in this paper appear to have problems - some more might be posted later by others.

Pubpeer Comment: Figure 1B. Blue, orange, green, and red boxes focus attention to areas in the blot strips that show unexpected similarities. Image made darker to bring out details. Would the authors still have the original blots to show? There might be a perfectly fine technical explanation, but I am just curious how such similarities in different parts of the blots could happen.
